How an employee can initiate onboarding of new employment [ato - mygov]

Another component of the first phase of the Single Touch Payroll implementation is the ability for Employees to start the onboarding process of a new job directly from their MyGov Account.

Onboarding Tasks include:

  • Submit their Tax File Declaration Form to the ATO electronically;
  • Submit their Superannuation Choice Form to the ATO electronically.

To complete these forms correctly the new Staff Member should be provided with the following information by their new Employer:

  • The new Employer's ABN;
  • The new Employer's default Superannuation Fund's USI (Unique Super Identifier)
  • Their Employment type (Full-Time, Part-Time or Casual)

Once the forms are completed the Employee can print them and hand them over to their new Employer. When the forms are submitted by the Employee via MyGov, the Employer no longer requires to submit them to the ATO.

Complete and Submit new onboarding forms to the ATO

  1. From your Internet Browser go to my.gov.au
  2. Log into MyGov with your secure credentials

    è  MyGov


  3. Click on the ATO tile

    è  MyGov - Australian Taxation Office



  4. Click on [Employment] > New employment

    è  The New Employment screen opens



  5. Enter the new Employer's ABN
  6. Select the Employment Type
  7. Select the forms you would like to complete (Tax File Declaration or Superannuation Choice Form, or both)
  8. Click on [Start]

  9. Enter/Confirm your address, phone number and residency status and click on [Next]

  10. Select the applicable tax options and click on [Next]

  11. Select the correct Medicare Levy option and click on [Next]

  12. The ATO will list all Superannuation funds linked to your Tax File Number
  13. Select one of your Superfunds, choose your Employer's Default Superfund or temporarily skip the Super choice
  14. Click on [Next]

  15. Select the confirmation and click on [Finalise]

  16. Click on [Print summary]

  17. Click on [Print] and print a copy of the forms to hand over to your new Employer
