How to manage Two-Factor Authentication in Dropbox [sop]

Dropbox provides users with the option to manage Two-Factor Authentication from their website. When first invited into Dropbox, users should set up the following security options:

  1. Two Factor Authenticator through the Google Authenticator app on their smart device;
  2. A Backup Phone Number;

Changing your Smart Device

A User may want to disable 2FA if they decide to change their smart device. Before switching to a new device (i.e. smartphone), it is important that users first use Two-Factor Authentication from their previous device to log in to Dropbox and then switch two-factor authenticator to a new device. If the previous device has been discarded, lost or broken, but the phone number has not changed, Dropbox can send a text message with the security code to the backup phone.

Send a security text message to your backup phone

  1. Login to Dropbox with your username and password

  2. Click on Having trouble getting a code?

  3. Click on Text my backup phone

    è  The Sign in with a backup phone screen opens



  4. Click on [Text my backup phone]

    è  A text message including your 6-digit security code is sent to your backup phone

  5. Enter the 6-digit security code from the text message and click on [Enter]

Enable Two Factor Authenticator on a new Smart Device

  1. In Dropbox click on the account icon on the top right-hand side of the screen
  2. Select Settings

  3. Select the [Security] Tab
  4. From the Two-step verification section, click on Edit next to the Authenticator app Preferred Method
  5. Enter your Dropbox password to access the next screen

  6. Select the option Use a mobile app and click on [Next]

  7. Open the Google Authenticator App in your new smart device and scan the QR code
  8. Click on [Next]

  9. Type the 6-digit code from your Google Authenticator app and click on [Next]

  10. Type your mobile number and click on [Next]

    è Two-step verification is set up on your new smart device
