Fuel Tax Credits (FTC) provide eligible Businesses with a credit for the fuel tax (excise or customs duty) that's included in the price of fuel used in:

  • machinery;
  • plant;
  • equipment;
  • heavy vehicles;
  • light vehicles travelling off public roads or on private roads.

The FTC credit amount depends on when the Business acquires the fuel, the type of fuel used and the activity the fuel is used for. Fuel tax Credits rates also change twice per year so it's important to check the rates each time you do your business activity statement (BAS).

If your Business is eligible for Fuel Tax Credit, the ATO provides a simple online calculation tool to determine your applicable credit. To ease the Fuel Calculation it is also advisable to set a Petrol Account with Businesses like Motorpass which can provide a Statement showing the total litres of the Fuel used over the quarter.
